I'm so excited to be in a position to offer 2 scholarships to Tracee Stanley's July Workshop. I'm even happier to know that some folks have offered to match this gift, and I think we will be able to support 4 BIPOC entrepreneurs in taking this course. It will help them align their teachings with Spirit and create deep, lasting impact. If you'd like to support, venmo @restinpoweryogareiki with the subject line: scholarship for Tracee's workshop. The workshop is offered on a sliding scale from $50-175 and any amount is appreciated.
I don't have much money. My business just barely started to break even, and even so I'm not yet making enough to sustain myself from my business alone. I am privileged enough to have a family home to stay in while I rent out my apartment so that I can dive deep into entrepreneurship and remain stable while I journey toward flourising. I have been gifted scholarships before, and I know viscerally how powerful it is when someone invests in you, especially when someone you don't even know decides you are so inherently valuable that you should be elevated in your work.
THE HOW + WHEN
Folks entered for a scholarship via this post on instagram, from June 11-14th, 2020, and they tagged two other BIPOC entrepreneurs to help us create a growing list of folks to support, and then they added their proudest business moment of the year. This felt critical as BIPOC's victories are not amplified as loudly in public spaces (physical or virtual) as their tragedies. Read below for some of the dope things BIPOC entrepreneurs have accomplished in 2020 despite a global pandemic and national uprisings!
Learning about the 5 Pranamaya Koshas revolutionized my understanding of yoga and of myself. It has become the framework through which I filter all of my assessments of psycho-spiritual, psycho-social and psycho-physical health.
What is a pranamaya kosha?
In sanskrit, kosha means "sheath" or "layer." Prana refers to "energy" or "life force," and in yogic tradition, prana rides on the breath. Maya refers to the illusion of the world around us; the idea that that which we experience is. When put together, pranamaya kosha refers to the ways in which we experience and perceive the energetic layers of existence.
What are the 5 pranamaya koshas?
There are 5 sheaths or layers in this energetic system of perception, and they move inward from the most gross (material) to the most subtle (immaterial). Imagine them like a Russian nesting doll, with the outer layer operating in some ways as the shield which regulates access to the inner layers. However, each layer is complete in and of itself and remains in contact with the others. They are only complete when all together, but it helps to take them apart to observe what each layer teaches us
I love coloring. That's right! Coloring :)
Well, intentional coloring is a long-tested spiritual practice, traditionally used in Yantras and Mandalas. In the last few years, the practice has gained commercial success as an adult stress-reliever.
Coloring allows us to practice one-pointed focus. In turn, this allows the distractions of our inner and outer worlds to become less intense. Did your mind wander? Gently bring it back to that pen/pencil/paint stroke. As the senses withdraw, our parasympathetic nervous system, which allows us to rest and digest, activates. Our stress reduces, and this can prepare us to experience a meditative state.
I'm a portraitist, and I love drawing. Sometimes the structure of a portrait doesn't meet my needs for the day. I found that, on days where I couldn't sit down to draw, I found great joy in coloring in my mind maps. I continued to do this, and that has led us to this here blog post!
